عادی اردو میں یہ لفظ ’’عادت اختیار کرنے والا، یعنی جس شخص کو کوئی عادت ہو‘‘ کے معنی میں مستعمل ہے ۔بعض لوگوں کا کہنا ہے کہ اس معنی کو ظاہر کرنے والا لفظ عربی میں’’معتاد‘‘ ہے نہ کہ ’’عادی‘‘، لہٰذا ’’عادی‘‘ کوترک کرنا چاہئے۔ ظاہر ہے کہ ہمارا سروکار اردو سے ہے، عربی سے نہیں۔ اردو کے لئے یہ لفظ مہند بالعربی ہے اور ’’عادت اختیار کرنے والا‘‘ کے معنی میں بالکل درست ہے۔اردو میں ’’معتاد‘‘ شاید ہی کوئی بولتا یا لکھتا ہو، لیکن اگر کسی نے لکھا، یا بولا، تو اس نے اردو میں عربی کی ملاوٹ کی۔ یہی صورت ’’راشی‘‘ کی ہے۔ دیکھئے، ’’راشی‘‘۔
