ٓآئینہ بندی اصل میں ’’آئین بندی‘‘ ہے، بمعنی ’’سجاوٹ ، سجاوٹ کرنا‘‘۔ لیکن اردو میں ’’آئینہ بندی‘‘ بھی رائج ہو گیا ہے۔ اسے غلط نہ کہناچاہئے۔ ’’امیر اللغات‘‘ اور ’’نور الغات‘‘ میں ’’آئین‘‘بمعنی ’’تزئین،آ رائش‘‘ نہیں ہے، اور نہ ہی ’’آئین بندی‘‘ اور ’’آئینہ بندی‘‘ کا اندراج ہے۔ لیکن ’’آصفیہ‘‘ میں ’’آئین‘‘ بمعنی ’’تزئین،آ رائش‘‘ہے، اور ’’آئینہ بندی‘‘ بمعنی ’’سجاوٹ ، سجاوٹ کرنا‘‘بھی مذکورہے۔ آئینۂ زانو غالب کا شعر ہے ؎ پابدامن ہو رہا ہوں بسکہ میں صحرا نورد خار پا ہیں جوہر آئینۂ زانو مجھے اپنی کتاب ’’مشکلات غالب‘‘ میں اس شعرپر اظہار خیال کرتے ہوئے نیاز فتحپوری نے لکھا ہے کہ ’’آئینۂ زانو سے مراد خود زانو ہے۔زانو کو آئینہ کہنے کی ایک وجہ تو یہ ہو سکتی ہے کہ آئینے کو زانو پر رکھ کر دیکھا جاتا ہے، اور دوسرییہ کہ زانو کی ہڈی آئینے کی طرح ہوتی ہے۔‘‘ حقیقتیہ ہے کہ دونوں باتیں غلط ہیں۔ اس لفظ کے معنی ہیں ’’گھٹنے کی ہڈی، چپنی۔‘‘ناسخ کا شعر ہے ؎ نظر آئی ہے صاف اس میں مجھے انجام کی صورت جو گورستاں میں دیکھا ہے کوئی آئینہ زانو کا مرقوم الذیل شعر سے ’’آئینۂ زانو‘‘ کے معنی اور بھی صاف ہو جاتے ہیں۔ اس شعر میں بھی قبرستان کا منظر ہے ؎ کہیں آئینۂ زانو سکندر کا شکستہ تھا کسی جانب پڑا تھا کاسۂ سر خاک میں جم کا
