پرندہ اس لفظ میں ہائے ہوز زائد ہے، ’’چڑیا‘‘ کے معنی کے لحاظ سے’’پرند‘‘ اور’’پرندہ‘‘ میں کوئی فرق نہیں۔ جہاں تک تلفظ کا تعلق ہے، تو فارسی میں یہ بفتح اول و دوم بروزن ’’کمند‘‘ ہے۔ ’’نوراللغات‘‘ میں بھی یہی تلفظ دیا ہے۔ لیکن اردو میں دوم مکسور بھی بولتے ہیں، بالخصوص جب ’’چرند پرند‘‘ کہیں۔ ’’اردو لغت، تاریخی اصول پر‘‘ میں دونوں تلفظ دیئے ہیں، اوریہی موقف صحیح ہے۔ واضح رہے کہ ’’ریشمی چادر، شال‘‘ کے معنی میں یہ لفظ صرف ’’پرند‘‘ (اول دوم مفتوح) ہے۔ یعنی ’’پرندہ‘‘ کے معنی ’’ریشمی چادر، شال ‘‘نہیں۔
