- जब तीन अतिथियों के बदले तेरह आ जाते हैं तो निर्धन आदमी पकी हुई दाल या सालन में पानी झोंक देते हैं ताकि बढ़ोतरी हो जाए
- जहाँ कम चीज़ में नीति से काम चला लिया जाए या कम ख़र्च से काम निकाला जाए तो बोलते हैं
- बिना अवसर एवं बिना आवश्यक्ता ख़र्च हुआ
- प्राय: बिना बुलाए मेहमान आ जाते हैं, ऐसे अवसर पर इस के अतिरिक्त कि दाल में पानी डाल कर उसे पतला किया जाए और कुछ नहीं हो सकता
